Portrait of a Twitch
In modern philosophy, our sense of self is often defined by consciousness and control. This collection offers a challenge to this concept by visualizing my soul through its involuntary movements. The spasm of a muscle, the twitch of our eyes, catching the yawn of someone we connect with… these are all movements that reveal our inner energy. I am fascinated by the blood pumping in my veins and the contrast between my awareness and unawareness of its movement. I hope to make my audience more aware of the spasmodic energy flitting through their muscles. I hope to agitate my viewers, make them stir in their seats, bounce their legs, and fidget with something. I want to bring awareness to these involuntary actions and how they are a reflection of who we are. This collection is an exploration of movement, a playful encounter with myself, and a celebration of energy.
“...we may infer from the movements of the body back to similar movements of the soul.”
~Aristotle
