Julia Cirincione
Artist Statement
As I am generally characterized as a non-emotional person, [this project] has become a journey to express myself in new ways. Through self-portraiture coupled with portraits of a friend who resembles me, I seek new ways to share emotions that I generally don’t personally express.
My inspiration for these portraits is that I want to represent what people expect emotions are meant to look like, even though I may feel those same emotions without showing them. Everybody deals with emotions and expresses them in their own way, and [this project] has helped me understand that it is okay that I do not express my emotions as freely as others may.

About the Artist
Julia Cirincione is most known for her portrait and landscape photography. Interested in the art of photography from a very young age, she derives her inspiration from her grandfather who taught her the basics of photography. Selected as 1 of 25 artists to exhibit in the Picturing Pandemic Baltimore exhibition in 2020, her work represents the emptiness of downtown attractions during COVID. Cirincione has also taken portraits of staff and faculty for the Loyola Clinical Center (LCC) website. As she graduates this year, she plans to continue to pursue portrait and landscape photography, pushing herself to step outside of her comfort zone.
