Isa Gold — Studio Arts
when i was little, i ran around in glittery fairy wings drawing rainbows everywhere (including, to my parents’ dismay, the walls and furniture). the colors transported me to fantasy worlds that offered an escape from what i later learned to call depression and anxiety.
in (w)underlands and Antidepressants, two ongoing series of multimedia paintings exploring my relationship with my mental health, i invite viewers to let their imaginations meander beside mine. slowly collaging colors, forms, and materials, i invent (w)underlands: surreal, psychological ecologies that help me navigate my depressive/anxious/compulsive tendencies. inspired by biology and environmental science, i reference the physical world to render the immaterial. broadly, my practice reflects my curiosity about the social applications of art and creativity.
