The Tragedy of Humans
Humanity can be a wonderful thing, and it can also be a terrible thing. “The Tragedy of Humans” explores this terrible side of humanity, bringing the difficult topics that are often brushed over and pushed aside front and center. As humans, we are constantly bombarded with an overflow of tragedy so large that we have become desensitized to the violence and sadness. This series forces one to take a minute and face humanity head on, reflecting not only on the grand scope of the world but also how one contributes to it.
“Often when I am drawing in the subway in New York City an observer will patiently stand by and watch until I have finished drawing and then, quickly, as I attempt to walk away will shout out ‘But what does it mean?” I usually answer “That’s your part, I only do the drawings.’” —Keith Haring
