Cyanotype and mixed media on paper, 26 x 35 inches
“My artistic practice intertwines installation and mixed media on paper, exploring themes of nature and biophilia through the intricate relationships of time, movement, and place-specific phenomena within landscapes. I draw inspiration from fleeting moments—like light filtering through tree branches, the shifting shoreline of water and land, a weed dispersing seeds, a flowing glacier, and a four-hundred-year-old living tree—while imagining changes that unfold across expanded timescales beyond the periphery of human experience.
Nature is a dynamic expression of chaos, a continuous flow of possibilities and diversity. The tension between chaos and control shapes my work: I am drawn to processes beyond my control yet compelled by an instinct to organize and make sense of them. At the core of my work is an ongoing effort to cultivate a profound connection with specific locations by engaging in various aspects of the landscape, most recently plant life. I carefully gather plants from local ecosystems to create botanical prints on paper embodying their geographic origins and temporal contexts, grounding my work in place and time.”
