Le Mer, Plastic newspaper sleeves and chicken wire, 2021

“I am so delighted to have my piece chosen for this show. As a supporter of our environment, I wanted to reuse materials that are usually tossed away to create something new. Using newspaper sleeves and wire to some may not be considered fiber work, but I couldn’t think of a more ideal marriage of recycled materials.”

Artist Bio:

As a young girl living in Brooklyn, Marsha Salzberg dreamed of hanging out with all the great artists in Montmartre. She’d learn to paint and then would discuss all things art, all while speaking French, of course.

Out of High School, she spent a year studying art at the New York School of Design. Then her life changed course and she traded brush for apron. She married, moved to Maryland, and lived the traditional suburban housewife life. Now that mission completed, the artist began again to follow her passion for art. She returned to school and received her AA from Prince George’s Community College. As an artist, she specializes in sculpture and doing work in clay, wood, and other materials. The pandemic has resulted in the loss of access to studio and kiln space, but given her opportunities to explore new materials including watercolor and acrylics. She has been fortunate to have works in all media shown at Prince George’s Community College, the New Deal Cafe, Doctors Hospital, Gateway Arts Center, Montpelier Art Barn, and several other local venues. Exploring all these media continues to enrich her life and help her grow as an artist.
