Artist Statement:
2020 was a turning point in my art practice. Without my traditional methods of expression and connection, I discovered knotting cotton cords could be my outlet. Each knot became a meditation and captured what was happening in that moment. My work typically moves through tightly knotted structure flowing into unwound loose cord. My hope is to tangibily demonstrate working through a moment or emotion. These works encompass that journey. Moving from chaos to a controlled flow to a perfect complete circle.
Artist Bio:
Baltimore-based fiber artist, Shirey Baig, loved crocheting and making friendship bracelets. Getting older, those hobbies faded away. In her late 30s, she needed an outlet to balance and de-stress from her nonprofit data management career. When she revisited fiber arts, she found that her hands remembered all the movements and knots. Within fiber arts, macramé using cotton cord is her focus. She is drawn to the versatility of the medium. It can capture everything from abstract movement to perfect geometric shapes. She vends at local craft markets under the name Reyshi Designs. This will be her first gallery exhibit.
