There are many kinds of rain; a hundred kinds of rain for each season in Japan. The rain falls and becomes a river, and that river runs to the sea. The water cycle symbolizes our diversity and unity in this project. Four sound instruments built with wood, stone, and metal, and wires create the sound of rain, inspired by the four elements - fire, water, earth, air - and Japanese historical art to form the shape and create a rich soundscape.

I use blue LED bulbs to build a dramatic scene around the sound instruments. The color suggests a silent world, while the dark atmosphere references ancient Japanese ritual. It is intended to evoke a primitive emotion stemming from memories deep within the subconscious. In my undergraduate program in Tokyo, I once made a deep blue painting. This painting, referencing the shine from butterflies, signified sounds in a space of animistic spirit. In this installation, I recapture that essence.
